A Heartwarming Christmas Tale
Christmas Mapping with a Message of Peace and Joy
Project Scope
It has become a tradition for SEARS to set up monumental mappings on the facades of various major shopping malls. This year, the idea was to take it a step further by telling a Christmas story. The production needed to blend 3D backgrounds and transitions, handled by the Kardia studio, with 2D character animation, produced by Banzai Studio.
Creative Solution
Since the mapping would be projected on facades with varying dimensions, we decided to develop animation sprites for all the characters. This meant that each character was rendered separately, allowing for seamless integration with the 3D animation, tailored to the dimensions of each facade.
Regarding character development, we used a previous design provided by the client as a base and from there developed a family of characters. This included our protagonist, Pablo, as well as María, José, Baby Jesus, the Three Wise Men, the Sheep, the Donkey, and Santa Claus.
Achieved Success
The Christmas story was projected on several SEARS facades across the metropolitan area, delivering a message of hope during the pandemic. We created a heartfelt message with adorable characters and engaging performances, complemented by mapping transitions and the legendary voice-over of Francisco Colmenero (known for his work in multiple Disney movies). The result was a visually and emotionally impactful experience for all viewers.
